| Fly-fishing School Beginner’s lessons on the sport of fly-fishing are being offered at Rockefeller State Park Preserve, in cooperation with the Sportsmen’s Club of Northern Westchester, the Croton Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and The Bedford Sportsman. The four-session school takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 16th, March 30th, April 6th, and April 13th. Participants will learn the basics of fly-fishing, including choosing the right rod, reel, and tackle; proper casting techniques; and the use of flys. The school includes two days of fly-fishing on the Pocantico River, a class B trout stream. The school is open to anyone 16 years and older. The program fee is $95 and a $6 vehicle access fee applies for each session. All participants are required to possess a valid New York State fishing license and a Rockefeller State Park Preserve fishing permit. They will also need to provide their own equipment for the last two sessions. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. Registration forms are available in the Preserve Office located at Route 117, one mile east of Route 9. The deadline for registration is March 14, 2008.
